Experienced, Dynamic Principal Joins Our Lady of Malibu School
Michael Smith brings 37 years of educational and leadership expertise to
Our Lady of Malibu School

Our Lady of Malibu School is proud to announce that Mr. Michael Smith has been selected as our principal for the 2011-2012 school year. Michael has been described as a team builder who makes you want to work as a group and someone who knows what kids need. He is calm, professional, and possesses a tremendous instructional background and knowledge of technology. Michael enjoys working with all of the constituents in a school community including faculty, staff, students, and parents. Michael truly has the qualities necessary to build upon the fine tradition of Our Lady of Malibu School.
Michael earned his B.A. from Pacific Oaks College and M.A. from Cal State Los Angeles as a Title VII Fellow. He has done post graduate work at USC in the area of language literacy and learning and holds a bilingual certificate of competency. Michael began his career as an elementary school classroom teacher and has 23 years of administrative experience in K-12 settings. He has been an assistant principal, principal, district coordinator, administrator of an adult education center and, most recently, served as the interim executive director at Palisades Charter High School. In addition, Michael taught teacher education at Loyola Marymount University for 20 years. Presently, he teaches education classes at the University of Phoenix and is also an adjunct professor in the Leadership and Policy Studies Department at Cal State Northridge.
In 2009, Michael retired briefly to spend time with his wife, who is also a principal, and grown daughters. He says that he “missed being with the kids,” though, and so welcomed the opportunity to become principal at OLM to once again work with students and teachers.
Michael is excited about joining the Our Lady of Malibu School community, and we are eager for the community to meet him.
